Scarcity varies significantly both in magnitude and diversity..and if viewed in that broad perspective i'm sure viewer comments might never be counter to your statement

According to Malthus's theory on population (1798), he believed that population would increase at a geometric rate and the food supply at an arithmetic rate.

This disharmony would lead to widespread poverty and starvation which would only be checked by natural occurrences such as disease, high infant mortality, famine, war or moral restraint.

As the population increases, the ratio of natural resouces to man if quantified would be reduced and with time become scarce. This scarcity creates some struggle among people as they tend to satisfy their needs. This struggle will continue to spread from a small to a bigger population. Just image ten hungry brothers sharing ten fingers of banana, that will be peaceful right but when they are to share three fingers, the look on their faces could even lit a flame.
SCARCITY i agree is the root of most conflicts.

i would agree...but to some extent because Maltus' theory was highly based on primitive technology
Yes, some...conflicts in developing economies find their roots in scarcity...but i think contemporary conflicts go beyond "ten hungry brothers"
...i'll rather go in for power and control...as a fundamental cause for conflicts

I agree with that because many people hurt about saying unexpected word of mouth and it makes a problem and not just problem a very huge problem. I know everyone do that and I admit it but I realize that's not the key for interaction with somebody but to understand everybody.

Scarcity is a fundamental problem which affects us here in particular. The more we want the more we need. The more we need the more we want...
This puts a strain on the existing infrastructure and resources when there is insufficient reserves in place.
As more demand is placed on the resource, scarcity results in cartels being given the opportunity to control prices and impose artificially high prices.
Not an ideal situation.
We see this seasonally in our own land! Droughts give opportunists the ideal opportunity to flourish during periods of scarcity. :( Tom

Hello i have read in an article about this statement and found that Already, the poor in most cities pay from 2 to 3 rupees for a plastic pot of water sold to them by private water distributors. Often a poor family in Bangalore has to spend fifteen to twenty rupees to meet its daily water needs
The over-exploitation of ground water and the destruction or neglect of lakes and tanks has contributed to the serious nature of the problem in both rural and urban contexts. In rural areas the practice of flood cultivation has led to enormous wastage of water due to evaporation, apart from increasing the salinity of the soil.
More than 25 % of the urban population does not have access to safe drinking water. About 50 % of the urban population suffers from poor sanitation and water-borne diseases like cholera, typhoid, tuberculosis, dysentery and gastro-enteritis. It is estimated that the above listed conditions are responsible for 60 % of deaths in urban areas. Untreated sewage and lack of sanitation leads to breeding of microbes, bacteria and fungus. This in turn leads to the eutrophication of surface water bodies.
How to provide clean, potable drinking water to the cities at a reasonable price, especially to the urban poor, is the challenge that civic bodies face all over the country.
Given the fact that the various state governments do not have the money or interest to replace/repair installations and infrastructure for urban water supply there is great temptation to privatize supply and distribution of water. Multinational corporations are assiduously trying to strike deals with governments to gain access to the lucrative water market.
There are several cases of privatization of river water, overdrawing of water for private companies (like the case of the Coca-Cola company in Plachimada, Kerala), and privatization of urban water supply, which have triggered stiff resistance from citizens’ groups and social movements. There is an increasing awareness that water is a public good and cannot be privatized. It is also felt that water is a fundamental right and that the state has the responsibility to supply a minimum amount of water per citizen.
