Programme Location: Akuapem Campus, Akropong
This programme focuses on the traditional concept and theories of economics in micro and macro economics. What makes the BSc. Business Economics unique is that, in addition to the traditional economics, the programme also focuses on major subject areas of Business Administration including Enterpreneurship and Accounting.
This Honours degree programme is designed to provide a strong educational foundation in economics for students, who upon graduation can readily provide specialized skills at the middle-management level of business as well as non-profit making organizations, may set-up and run their own small businesses, or may pursue graduate degrees in economics and related fields.
To ensure that every student gets a broad exposure to the conduct of economics the programme provides for certain compulsory courses related to Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Studies The selected courses provide the desirable elements and concepts applicable in handling the problems related to the economic management of organizations.
To enable students to concentrate in particular areas of economic activity that interest them, the programme provides for specialization at the 300 and 400 levels. Some of the optional areas are International Economics, Industrial Economics, Labour Economics, Agricultural Economics etc.
Because of the important role the computer plays in modern organizational affairs, the programme features courses requiring student contact with the computer so that they may become thoroughly familiar with the use of the computer by the time they graduate.
The programme also considers high proficiency in English and French to be very desirable. English is the normal medium for communication in Ghana, and the knowledge of French is necessary for easy interaction with our neighbouring countries. Therefore these courses are made compulsory at certain stages of the programme.
