BSc. Business Economics

Overview

The programme focuses on the traditional concepts/theories of economics in micro and macro Economics. What makes the Business Economics programme unique is that in addition to the traditional economics, the programme also focuses on major subject areas of business Administration including Entrepreneurship and Accounting. Thus, the programme equips the student in three major subjects essential to the world of business and industry. Obviously, a graduate with such a rich background will be preferred to one with knowledge in only one of the subject areas.

A graduate in BSc. Business Economics will have versatile background as compared to someone with a degree in traditional Economics, and such a person will be a preferred candidate for employment in:

  • Industries
  • Financial Institutions
  • Research and Economic Analyses Institutions
  • Marketing Organisations

Admission Requirements

SSSCE / WASSCE Applicants


Credit in core English, core Mathematics, and Integrated Science or Social Studies, and any three Elective subjects preferably Economics, Geography, Government, Accounting, Financial Management, Business Management and Elective Mathematics with an aggregate score of 24 or better in the WAEC SSSCE and 36 or better in the WASSCE. Applicants should have aggregate 24 (A-D) for SSSCE and 36 (A1 – C6) for WASSCE or better in the SSSCE/WASSCE.

GBCE/ABCE Applicants


Holders of GBCE Certificate must have Credit passes in five (5) subjects including Mathematics, English and Social Studies or Integrated Science in the General Business Certificate Examination (GBCE). In addition, the applicant must have passes in three (3) subjects; at least, one of the passes should be Grade D or better in the Advance Business Certificate Examinations (ABCE). Holders of only GBCE Certificate CANNOT be admitted on the basis of that qualification alone.

A LEVEL Certificate


5 Credits (including English Language, Mathematics, an Arts subject and a Science subject) in the WAEC General Certificate of Education (GCE/WASC) Ordinary Level Examination; and 3 passes at the Advanced Level of the GCE. One of the Advanced Level passes should be a grade D or better. A pass in General Paper must also be obtained.
