The President of Presbyterian University College, Ghana (PUCG), Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Adow Obeng, has paid a one day courtesy call on the Chairperson of the Ga Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rev. Dr. Nii Noi Odonkor at his office in Accra on Thursday 22nd January 2015. The visit forms part of the President’s itinerary to some selected Presbyteries within the Presbyterian Church of Ghana to brief them on the state of the University.

Sharing his vision, the President, Rev Prof. Emmanuel Adow Obeng informed the Chairperson that strengthening the future of the University lies in siting a Campus in Accra. He points out that a City Campus will marshal the necessary resources that will position the University College to become a University that has worldwide acclaim for holistic quality education.

In his view, the Ga Presbytery has a unique role to play in the future strategic plan of the University College. He emphasised that there is the urgent need to establish an Accra City Campus of PUCG to serve the large population of young people seeking tertiary education. Again, Masters Programmes could be run at the City Campus to cater for the large pool of workers with First Degrees who desire to acquire Postgraduate and Professional  qualification while they work.

With this vision, there is the need for the Ga Presbytery to provide a place where the University could be located. Again, the President asked the Church to see the University as the Church’s own project to ensure its rapid growth and development. The Church must be interested in the PUCG as it’s been done by other Churches; by providing modern hostel facilities, Lecture blocks, Laborartories, among others. He called on the Ga Presbytery to mobilize support for the establishment of the Acca City Campus for the PUCG.

In his response, the Chairperson of the Presbytery, the Rev. Dr. Odonkor, pledged the support of the Ga Presbytery to ensure that the vision of the President is realised in the shortest possible time. He informed the President that the Presbytery has a large parcel of land at Abokobi, and Katamanso where the University could consider. He associated himself with the idea that the future of the University is in Accra, with the others becoming satellite campuses. He mentioned that this laudable agenda would form part of his address to the forthcoming Ga Presbytery conference. He subsequently invited the President to attend and address the Presbytery Conference in April 2015. Present at the meeting was the PRO of the University College, Rev Joseph Kofi Antwi.
