Prof.&nbsp; Emmanuel Adow Obeng a\ndistinguished minister of the gospel, scholar, mentor, researcher\nand administrator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He received a B.A. (Hons.) Ed. with\nspecialization in Religious Studies and Education in 1974 from the University\nof Cape Coast. &nbsp;In 1977, he was awarded a Master of\nTheology degree with specialization in New Testament Studies from the University of Aberdeen, Scotland.&nbsp; He was also awarded\na Doctor of Philosophy in New Testament Studies from the same University in\n1981.&nbsp; By this achievement, he became the first Ghanaian who was not a\nminister of the Gospel to hold a Doctor of Philosophy in New Testament Studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After completing his Doctoral studies at the\nUniversity of Aberdeen in 1981, he briefly taught at the University of Cape\nCoast and later moved to the University of Ilorin, Nigeria from 1982 to 1990\nand Moi University, Eldoret, Kenya from 1990 to 1997 where he was promoted to\nfull Professorship in New Testament Studies in 1996. He returned to teach at\nthe University of Cape Coast in 1997.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his career, Rev.\nProf. Adow Obeng has held all academic positions in the University \u2013 Head of\nDepartment, Vice Dean, Dean, Pro Vice Chancellor and Vice Chancellor.&nbsp; He\nwas the Vice-Chancellor&nbsp;of the University of Cape Coast from\n2001-2008&nbsp; \u2013 the first alumnus Vice-Chancellor of the University. As Vice\nChancellor, he is credited with, among other things, the phenomenal development\nand growth in student numbers, massive infrastructural development, expansion\nof faculties\/departments and introduction of new programmes including the\nestablishment of the School of Medical Sciences, development of ICT\ninfrastructure, growth and expansion of the Centre for Continuing Education,\nprojection of the University\u2019s reputation as a centre of excellence, promotion\nof academic quality, vigorous support for students\u2019 welfare and effective\nenforcement of discipline on the University campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rev. Prof. Obeng has served on various Boards and\nCommittees notably, National Theatre Board (1998 \u2013 2003), National Council for\nTertiary Education (2002 \u2013 2007), Executive Board of the Association of African\nUniversities (2005 \u2013 2009), Executive Committee of the Commonwealth University\nStudy Abroad Consortium (2006 \u2013 2008).&nbsp; In addition, he has chaired or been\na member of several University Boards and Committees. He has served as External\nExaminer to a number of Universities in Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda and Ghana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He has won various awards including the Bruce and\nFraser Award of the University of Aberdeen (1975-1977), Order of Volta of the\nRepublic of Ghana (Companion Division) in 2007 for his contribution to the\nfield of Higher Education. In 2012, he received an honorary degree of Doctor of\nLetters,(D. Litt, Honoris Causa) from the University of Cape Coast and a Doctors\nHonoris from the University of Aberdeen (UK) in 2013 for academic scholarship\nand leadership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rev. Prof. Obeng has published extensively in\ninternational journals. He has also authored chapters in books as well as\nedited books. He has attended and presented papers at many local and\ninternational conferences. His publications and presentations are on Biblical Studies, Religious Studies and Quality Assurance Issues in Higher Education in Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently, he has thirty-three (33) years\nexperience at the university level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Adow Obeng is an ordained\nminister of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana and is\nmarried with two adult sons.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rev.
