Presbyterian University, Ghana (PUG), has officially inaugurated a cutting-edge Cybersecurity Laboratory at the Okwahu Campus on November 13, 2024. The facility which was dedicated by Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare-Kwakye, the Chancellor of PUG, was sponsored by Mr. Emmanuel Sekyere Asiedu, CEO of Virtual InfoSec Africa (VIA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 25-seat laboratory is fully equipped with new computers, an advanced audio-visual system, and high-performance servers designed to give students hands-on experience in cybersecurity. Expressing gratitude at the inauguration, the Chancellor, who also serves as Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), praised the partnership between the University and Mr. Emmanuel Asiedu Sekyere, describing the laboratory as a milestone in PUG’s mission to prepare students for competitive roles in today\u2019s job market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He emphasized the importance of cybersecurity in today\u2019s digital landscape noting that the laboratory reflects PUG\u2019s commitment to providing students with essential skills to manage and counteract cyber risks. Addressing the gathering, Mr.Emmanuel Asiedu Sekyere shared his commitment to empowering the next generation of cybersecurity experts and enhancing Ghana’s global cybersecurity standing.
“In a world where cyber threats are constantly evolving, it is essential that we not only keep pace but also prepare our future leaders to do the same,” he stated. To further support students, Mr. Asiedu Sekyere announced that the first 100 students enrolled in Computer Science or related programmes would receive vouchers for EC-Council certifications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These certifications, fully funded by VIA and valued at over $150,000, will enable students to gain industry-recognized credentials such as Certified Security Operations Center Analyst and Certified Cybersecurity Technician. The Vice-Chancellor of PUG, Prof. John Ofosu-Anim, expressed gratitude for the laboratory describing it as a transformative resource that brings the University closer to its vision of providing an education that prepares students to be resilient global citizens in a digital age.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also encouraged the wider business community to support PUG through contributions ranging from scholarships to research funding, all of which help strengthen the bond between academia and industry.
The dedication ceremony was attended by the members of the University Council, Chairpersons of the Presbyteries of PCG, Director of RTC, traditional leaders, community leaders, faculty and administrative staff of the University, students, and other stakeholders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
