P. O. Bawua Bonsafo said the church expects men and women trained by PUCG to be disciplined, hardworking, prudent, orderly and self reliant.

“I have confidence in the training that you are about to receive in this University. Lead a good life, study hard, be focused, and your rewards will be great. With your motto ‘discipline in leadership, the Church, the University and your families expect nothing less from you and you should expect nothing less from yourselves but success.” He said.

In his keynote address, Prof. Frank S. Arku, the Acting President of the University, was delighted that the position of the university in the latest web ranking has been enviable, having been ranked 2nd among private Universities in the country. “Our graduates are also doing extremely well at their various work places. The tracer studies conducted by the University testified to this. Comments from the employers indicate that our graduates are disciplined and very hardworking.” He said. “The PUCG has proved beyond reasonable doubt that it is capable of handling all programs despite what people think” He added.

Lecturers were also commended for the fast rate at which they were publishing practical quality research papers that are relevant to the society. An example was a paper presented by a faculty member that won bronze at the Research Initiative Conference in Accra in October 2014 entitled ‘Towards a robust leaner-driven framework for integrating video presentation technologies into the teaching and learning space.’

Government was also reminded of its indication to give incentives to private universities that will site their campuses outside cities such as Kumasi, Accra and Takoradi since incentives in the form of grants for training, infrastructure and scholarships to students can address some of the barriers private universities face.

The Acting President also admonished freshmen to be mindful of the environment they find themselves. “University environment is a place where individuals are shaped by both positive and negative influences. Without much discipline you can leave university with all kinds of perspectives and behaviours which may not be beneficial to yourselves or society. The beauty of life is that you are presented with choices and consequences. Choosing to live by values that honour God and your families also brings benefits to the individual. Whatever you sow you shall reap. If you put in hard work, you will reap good grades. If you keep away from sin, you will be protected from evil. As a Bible-believing institution that lives by the motto “Discipline in Leadership,” I trust that all our students will seek to emulate Christ and live standard lives.”

Source: PR Department | Presbyterian University College, Ghana

The Presbyterian University College, Ghana (PUCG) has held its 12th matriculation ceremony at the Okwahu Campus for 740 freshmen who were admitted into various programs of the university for the 2014-2015 academic year.
