A lecturer at the School of Business and Economics of the Presbyterian University College, Ghana, Mr. Michael Kwame Asiedu has cautioned that a country cannot develop with uneducated people in the 21st Century.<\/span><\/p>\n

He made the statement in a speech he delivered on the theme \u201cThe Role of 21st Century Students in National Development\u201d at the launch of the Business Administration Students Association week celebrations.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mr. Michael Kwame Asiedu said the contribution of University students to national development in a developing country like Ghana cannot be over emphasized. \u201cWe cannot expect a country to develop if it does not have educated people\u201d he noted.<\/span><\/p>\n

He argued that students studying in the University today are the same people who would be working tomorrow in the public sector, private sector and in the security agencies, and would be pillars on which the country would stand.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to him the role of students is like the building blocks of the country and that if they are left unnoticed might cause long term major problems for our countries noting that they are the architects of countries and it is on their shoulders lies a great responsibility for building countries.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Business Economics lecturer advised that students must actively engage in universal national educational programmes; take part in social welfare activities for general social progress; engage in intellectual debates to bring out major issues that contribute to policy making; and undertake voluntary teaching during vacations especially in the rural areas lacking teachers. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

He posits that students can go this length if they understand the problems that countries like ours are going through and endeavor to solve them.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, students must be disciplined, honest, sincere and make personal sacrifices for the sake of reviving the lost glory of our countries.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mr. Michael Kwame Asiedu admonished that these important traits are learnt and developed during the student\u2019s life at the university.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
