The Presbyterian University College, Ghana (PUCG) led a team of health personnel from Breast Care International under Dr. Beatrice Wiafe Addae to carry out Breast Cancer screening exercise at Kwahu Apradang, a farming community under Kwahu West Municipal Assembly on 17<\/span>th<\/span> April, 2016. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Dr. Beatrice Wiafe Addae who is also the CEO of Peace and Love Hospitals took the people assembled for the screening exercise through a presentation on breast cancer and breast related diseases, and how to conduct a successful Self Breast Examination. <\/span><\/p>\n

115 persons were screened for breast cancer and nine cases were recorded which BCI describes as alarming considering the number of patients to cases ratio. <\/span><\/p>\n

In expressing his joy about the exercise, the Chief of Apradan, Nana Sasu Asante who participated in the screening exercise eulogized Presbyterian University College, Ghana and Breast Care International for bringing such a service to his community. <\/span><\/p>\n

He appealed however, to BCI to open a screening centre at the Apradang Community Clinic to periodically carry out such exercises to support the over 20 deprived communities in the area. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In response, Dr. Wiafe Addae requested the Chief and Elders of Apradang to nominate two nurses from the community clinic to be trained by Peace and Love Hospital for free to carry out the breast screening exercise in the area. \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

She intimated that she was touched by the conditions of the people in the area, noting in the visit was worth the time, money and sacrifice for the exercise stating those communities need such services but cannot afford transportation and cost of medical attention. <\/span><\/p>\n

Rev. Joseph Kofi Antwi, the PRO and Acting Chaplain of PUCG who led the team \u00a0to the Village expressed his joy about the services the people received through PUCG in collaboration with BCI. <\/span><\/p>\n

He disclosed that PUCG sees it as a responsibility to support the deprived communities in the catchment areas of its campuses with such services. He promised that the University will continue to support such communities in meeting their critical social and educational needs.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n
