{"id":7040,"date":"2019-01-29T16:13:22","date_gmt":"2019-01-29T16:13:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.presbyuniversity.edu.gh\/site\/?p=7040"},"modified":"2019-01-29T16:13:27","modified_gmt":"2019-01-29T16:13:27","slug":"pucg-holds-roll-call-for-students-of-faculty-of-law","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.presbyuniversity.edu.gh\/site\/pucg-holds-roll-call-for-students-of-faculty-of-law\/","title":{"rendered":"PUCG Holds Roll Call for Students of Faculty of Law"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Presbyterian University College, Ghana (PUCG) held its\nmaiden Roll Call to matriculate freshmen and women of the Faculty of Law who\nenrolled for the 2018\/2019 Academic Year at a ceremony. The ceremony took place\nat the Kumasi Campus of PUCG on 26<sup>th<\/sup> January, 2019. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Faculty of Law registered 66 students comprising 56 males\nand 10 females for the 2018\/2019 Academic Year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Addressing the matriculating students of the Faculty\nof Law, the President of PUCG, Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Adow Obeng said the swearing\nof the Matriculation Oath is an important aspect of the ceremony. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe oath binds\nthe students to observe the rules and regulations of the University, to obey\nthe President and other Officials of the University, and to apply themselves\ndiligently to their studies, to seek knowledge and truth, and to promote the\ngeneral good of the University.The President also disclosed by adding that the\n\u201coath also binds the University and its Management to seek the welfare of these\nstudents during the duration of their studies.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Adow Obeng, President of PUC<\/em>  <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>PUCG\u2019s Vision for products from the Law Faculty<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Contributing to building a robust legal system in the country to strengthen the\nGhanaian society and secure its future, the President said the products from PUCG Law Programme will not\nonly know the law, and apply it appropriately, but would be imbued with\nChristian values to make them responsible lawyers and not become conduits of\ncorruption in our judicial system. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cUnderstanding and appreciating the Law will help you to be\ngood lawyers. Appreciation of the Law leads to a better application of the Law\nin a given situation. Regurgitation of facts known as \u2018chew and pour\u2019 is not\nthe best approach to your studies. Passing your end of semester exams is just\nnot enough. You are here to appreciate the substantive law,\u201d he reiterated. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The President assured the students that the lecturers have been carefully selected\nand they are the best they can have teaching law in any University. He said the\nLaw library is well resourced, but will be constantly updated from time to\ntime. \u201cThe Moot Court is one of the nicest you can get in this area,\u201d he noted.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Build\na brand <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rev. Prof.\nEmmanuel Adow Obeng implored the students that their body\nis an environment for your mind. \u201cKeeping yourselves tidy and dressing\nappropriately is a factor for good academic life. The University is concerned\nabout your academic performances. However, it will not overlook the way you\ndress to lectures.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs potential lawyers,\nyou need to have a brand. A well-dressed lawyer commands respect. To those\naspiring to be judges in the near future, being morally upright and with a\nproven integrity is a condition for your appointment as a judge. Godfred Yeboah Dame who was the\nguest speaker of the ceremony said mediocrity, misguided crave for cheap\nwealth, substandard delivery of legal services and dishonesty have hardly been\nthe hallmark of legal training and the legal profession.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;He noted that dedication to excellence in the\nlaw, careful and serious training, industry and meticulousness surely, are ultimately\nrewarding for the lawyer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cA poorly trained\nlawyer is a danger to society and a threat to the sustenance of our democracy\nas a nation.&nbsp; Ultimately, a dishonest\nbar, needless to say, breeds a corrupt bench and affects the core of the\nsociety we seek to build. Ghana cannot afford to gamble with its future by\nsacrificing these noble attributes of the legal profession in the training of\nlaw students\u201d the astute lawyer cautioned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Imbibe the values of\nPresbyterian Training <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His Lordship Justice\nKossi-Efo Kaglo, the Supervising High Court Judge, Ashanti Region, who was the\nChairperson for the ceremony admonished the law students to heed to the\ndictates of the matriculation oath sworn and imbibe the values of the Presbyterian\ntraining. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.presbyuniversity.edu.gh\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/pucg1.jpg?resize=640%2C427&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7046\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.presbyuniversity.edu.gh\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/pucg1.jpg?w=750&amp;ssl=1 750w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.presbyuniversity.edu.gh\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/pucg1.jpg?resize=300%2C200&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.presbyuniversity.edu.gh\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/pucg1.jpg?resize=360%2C240&amp;ssl=1 360w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><figcaption> <br><em>His Lordship Justice Kossi-Efo Kaglo, Supervising High Court Judge of Ashanti Region<\/em> <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The Supervising High\nCourt Judge was full of praise for Presbyterian Educational Philosophy which\ninstills discipline, honesty, commitment, hard-work, integrity, humility, Godly\nleadership and skills development, and sound moral principles in its trainees. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His Lordship Justice\nKossi-Efo Kaglo noted that being a lawyer does not evict you from your social\nenvironment and admonished the students to impart positively on their societies\nstating \u201cLet your law reflect your daily lives with people.\u201d &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Roll Call for the\nfreshmen and women of the Faculty of Law was conducted by the Registrar of\nPUCG, Mrs. Mary Abena Agyepong and the Dean for the Faculty of Law, Mr. Kwame\nAgyemang.
