The\nevent was held at the RTC Auditorium at Abetifi Kwahu. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Guest Speaker Nana Ansah Kwao IV spoke on the theme\n\u201cRethinking Our Cultural Identity For Nation Building: The Role Of Tertiary\nInstitutions In Ghana.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Touching on Re-educating ourselves, Nana Ansah Kwao IV said that Ghanaians\nare sometimes praised for neglecting the subject of Ghanaian culture,\nblackness and knowing and accepting who we are. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMost of us have survived perfectly\nwell in the absence of self-realization and not knowing our own culture. The\nfirst role of the tertiary institutions is to face it and accept this bitter\ntruth,\u201d He said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nana Ansah Kwao IV disclosed that culture defines the\ndevelopment of a people and how they solve problems that they encounter. \u201cMost\nsolutions that we borrowed from elsewhere that did not have our cultural\ninfluence in it came in to exacerbate the very problem it was meant to solve,\u201d\nhe posited. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nana\nimplored the Management of PUCG and other tertiary institutions in Ghana to, as\na matter of policy, make issues of culture and identity an emotional subject\nand not with the usual sympathetic approach. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He\nsaid, as a country we are currently developing largely on foreign cultures and\nthis leaves a huge gap in the market for us to explore. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According\nto the traditional ruler, the tertiary institutions should instill in their\nstudents the good cultural values and dispel the negative perceptions that \u201cwe\nhave grown to believe. This is important for our graduates to be able to defend\nwhenever their culture is misinterpreted.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Lecture was well attended by students from about ten\nSenior High Schools on the Kwahu Ridge, representatives from Government\nAgencies in the Kwahu area, Chiefs and elders from Kwahu Traditional Council,\nministers of the Gospel from various denominations as well as folks from the\nCommunity<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Presbyterian University College, Ghana (PUCG) held its 3rd Discipline in Leadership Public Lecture for the first time outside Accra.
