{"id":7506,"date":"2019-10-30T09:25:55","date_gmt":"2019-10-30T09:25:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.presbyuniversity.edu.gh\/site\/?p=7506"},"modified":"2019-10-30T09:27:01","modified_gmt":"2019-10-30T09:27:01","slug":"presbyterian-university-college-ghana-graduates-702-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.presbyuniversity.edu.gh\/site\/presbyterian-university-college-ghana-graduates-702-students\/","title":{"rendered":"Presbyterian University College, Ghana Graduates 702 Students"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>At the 13<sup>th<\/sup> Congregation of the Presbyterian University College, Ghana (PUCG), a total of 702 students comprising 349 males (49.7%) and 353 females (50.3%) graduated from the various programmes of the University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In\nsummary, 65 of the graduands obtained first class honours. While 326 of the\ngraduating students obtained Second Class honours (upper division), 295 were\nawarded Second Class (lower division) honours with 14 Third Class and two graduands\nfalling into the Pass division.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Presenting\nhis report to the 13<sup>th<\/sup> Congregation, the President of PUCG, Rev.\nProf. Emmanuel Adow Obeng noted that the records show overall good performance\nfrom the graduands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>New Programmes<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nPresident of PUCG said the University has received accreditation to commence\ntwo undergraduate programmes &#8211; BSc. International Development, BSc. Computer\nEngineering, and one graduate programme &#8211; MSc. Financial Risk Management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rev.\nProf. Emmanuel Adow Obeng noted that the new programmes are important additions\nto the curriculum offerings in the University bringing undergraduate programmes\nto 17 and the graduate programmes to 5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Commenting\non the BSc. Computing Engineering programme which will be hosted in the Obo\ncommunity, the President thanked the chief of Obo (Okwahu Nifahene), Nana\nYeboah Afari Boadjan II for mobilizing the Obo Community to contribute funds to\nrefurbish a classroom block into a library, office for staff, lecture rooms,\nand laboratory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nCommunity has also provided furniture and equipment for the programme. The\nPresident was grateful to the chief of Obo for committing the use of his hotel\nas hostel accommodation for the students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Adow Obeng called for closer collaboration between the University and the local communities noting that what has been achieved is a foretaste of strategic development if such partnerships are strengthened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently\nthe University has accreditation for Obo as a site of the Okwahu Campus and\naccreditation for BSc. Computer Engineering programme to be offered at the Obo\nsite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The University has also received accreditation from NABPTEX &#8211; The National Board for Professional and Technician Examination &#8211; to run the following programmes under the Board\u2019s regulation for three (3) years from October, 2019: Higher National Diploma Programmes &#8211; Information Management and Technology, and Event Management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nother programmes are Diploma in Business Administration, and Public Relations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According\nto Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Adow Obeng there are other programmes\ngoing through affiliation processes. These are Doctor of Optometry and B.Sc.\nMidwifery for the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at Agogo and M.Phil.\nin Educational Studies for the Faculty of Education at Akropong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>PUCG Charter<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rev.\nProf. Adow Obeng assured the Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana\n(PCG), Rt. Rev. Prof. J. O. Y. Mante that the University, is currently working\nhard to meet the requirements for charter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\nhave already put our governance structures and documentations in place, we have\nset up well structured faculty and departmental systems, and have developed and\nare running demand driven programmes of high quality\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nPresident of PUCG also added that the University over the years has recruited\nand grown the requisite academic and administrative staff meant for an\nautonomous university.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.presbyuniversity.edu.gh\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/A-section-of-the-graduands.jpg?resize=640%2C427&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7507\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.presbyuniversity.edu.gh\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/A-section-of-the-graduands.jpg?w=900&amp;ssl=1 900w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.presbyuniversity.edu.gh\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/A-section-of-the-graduands.jpg?resize=300%2C200&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.presbyuniversity.edu.gh\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/A-section-of-the-graduands.jpg?resize=768%2C512&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.presbyuniversity.edu.gh\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/A-section-of-the-graduands.jpg?resize=360%2C240&amp;ssl=1 360w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><figcaption> <em>A section of the graduating students<\/em> <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Qualification for teaching in a tertiary education\ninstitution <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To\nmeet the future teaching requirements, as envisaged in the new Education Bill\nthat is before the Parliament of Ghana, the President said the Management of\nthe University has encouraged the teaching and administrative staff who are not\nprofessional teachers to enroll on the Master of Education in Educational\nStudies programme run at PUCG.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He\ninformed Congregation that two members of staff have already graduated from the\nMEd. Programme and about five have finished their first semester courses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rev.\nProf. Adow Obeng said all the non professional teachers of the academic staff\nwill undertake the M.Ed programme as he noted that \u201cthis will further improve\nthe quality of teaching in the University.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nPresident disclosed that the MEd. Educational Studies run at PUCG is a higher professional\ndegree in Education, higher than the Post Graduate Diploma Programme at the\nUniversity of Cape Coast and University of Education, Winneba.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Centralized Applications and Placement System<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rev.\nProf. Emmanuel Adow Obeng disclosed that the Government is currently working on\na Centralized Applications and Placement System (CAPS) where there will be only\none platform for admission of freshmen and women into the Ghanaian public\nuniversities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This\nsystem when established will replace the multiple application system where a\npotential student will have to buy admission forms for almost all the public\nuniversities to ensure admission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nPresident hoped that the CAPS will ensure some parity in the distribution of\nstudents across the universities and guarantee that the private universities\nget a fair share of student numbers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cModerator, it is in\nthe supreme interest of Private Universities to be on the CAPS platform. PUCG\nhas decided to be on the platform and we are currently working to improve our\nICT infrastructure and redesigning our admission forms and processes so that we\ncan be on the system when it is finally rolled out\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Go,\nDeliver And Make an Impact<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking on the theme \u201cGo, Deliver and\nMake an Impact\u201d, the President of PUCG charged the graduands to stand out and\nbe worthy ambassadors in times when our societies, communities and work places\nare plagued with challenges that emanate from unethical behaviors. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFor Ghana to develop we need to eschew\nselfishness and greed from our national life\u201d, he stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAt PUCG we\nbelieve that the unprincipled behaviors can be ameliorated when the education\ndelivered to students is tailored in a mode to produce holistic individuals\u201d,\nhe reiterated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rev. Prof. Adow Obeng\nimplored the graduands to make an impact wherever they find themselves, and\ncharged them to depend on the values of Honesty, Hard Work,\nTruth, Determination, Commitment, Excellence, Humility, Integrity, Faith\nin God and love\nfor humanity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said \u201cthese are values\nthat will\nmake you Disciplined Leaders as well as Channels of Change in your chosen\nfields.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Gratitude<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nPresident expressed gratitude to the Bryan Acheampong\nFoundation (BAF) which has given scholarship to cover the tuition fees of\nseventy (70) students reading the Master of Education in Educational Studies\nProgramme. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The seventy (70) beneficiaries of the scholarship are\nteachers within the Kwahu East Education Directorate who have taught continuously\nfor ten (10) years or more in the District. In addition the Foundation is\nsupporting six (6) undergraduate students with scholarships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rev\nProf Adow Obeng also appreciated Barclays Ghana Ltd which has also given full\nscholarship to five (5) students of the University. This is part of the\nBarclays Tertiary Education Scholarship which was started last academic year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year an amount of thirty-three thousand one hundred and twenty-seven Ghana Cedis sixty pesewas (GH\u20b533,127.60)has been disbursed to the beneficiaries to cover tuition fees, printing laptop, and accommodation of the students, for the 2019\/2020 academic year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nExecutives of the National Alumni of the University were also praised for\nfacilitating the donation of one thousand bags of cement towards the completion\nof the Premier Hostel at the Okwahu Campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur heartiest appreciation goes to parents and\nguardians for the sacrifices made and also for entrusting your wards to us for\ntraining.We believe the training given to these graduands will bring benefits\nto you, themselves, and the nation at large\u201d, the President said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At the 13th Congregation of the Presbyterian University College, Ghana (PUCG), a total of 702 students comprising 349 males (49.7%) and 353 females (50.3%) graduated from the various programmes of the University.
