{"id":7538,"date":"2019-12-04T14:21:02","date_gmt":"2019-12-04T14:21:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.presbyuniversity.edu.gh\/site\/?p=7538"},"modified":"2019-12-04T14:21:06","modified_gmt":"2019-12-04T14:21:06","slug":"presbyterian-university-college-ghana-holds-17th-matriculation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.presbyuniversity.edu.gh\/site\/presbyterian-university-college-ghana-holds-17th-matriculation\/","title":{"rendered":"Presbyterian University College, Ghana holds 17th Matriculation"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The\nPresbyterian University College, Ghana (PUCG) has held its 17<sup>th<\/sup>\nmatriculation ceremony to formally admit 614 students into the University for\nthe 2019\/2020 academic year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\ntotal figure of 614 comprises 352 males and 262 females. This translates into a\nmale-female ratio of 57.3; 42.7. The University places priority on gender\nparity issues in its admissions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Matriculation\nOath <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Addressing the Matriculants, the President of PUCG, Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Adow Obeng disclosed\nthat the University has introduced one graduate and two undergraduate\nprogrammes namely, MSc. Financial Risk Management; BSc. International\nDevelopment; and BSc. Computer Engineering.&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This brings the total undergraduate\nprogrammes to 17 while the postgraduate offerings have also moved to five 5\nprogrammes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The University has applied for and also\nreceived accreditation from the National Board for Professional and Technical\nExaminations (NABPTEX) to run the following Higher National Diploma (HND) and\nDiploma programmes starting January, 2020: HND Information Management and\nTechnology; HND Events Management; Diploma in Business Administration; and Diploma\nin Public Relations. HND Media and Mass Communication programme is currently\ngoing through accreditation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to these, the University is\nworking on other programmes which are currently going through affiliation processes.\nThese include Doctor of Optometry, B.Sc. Midwifery and Master of Public Health\nfor the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at Asante Akyem (Agogo), and\nM.Phil. in Educational Studies for the Faculty of Education at Akuapem \u2013 Akropong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Government\nIntervention<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The President of PUCG implored the Government to see\nthrough the policy to give students with D7 in some core subjects who wish to\noffer programmes in the Humanities where Mathematics is not required. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He believes this will give hope to many applicants\nwho have aggregates twenty-four or less but with D7 in any of the Core\nsubjects, are unable to access tertiary education <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>GARNET\nProject<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rev. We are in the business of\nmoulding young men and women into whole beings,\u201d the President said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He continued, \u201cyour studies here will\nnot only make you academically prepared for the world of work but will develop\nyou into holistic individuals who will be useful to their employers, their\nfellow human beings, the society, yourselves and your Maker.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Adow Obeng said the\nUniversity intends to do this by ensuring that its core values of Faith in God,\nIntegrity, Commitment, Discipline, and Excellence permeate whatever we do,\nnoting that \u201cThese are values that will make you Disciplined Leaders as well as\nChannels of Change in your chosen fields.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He admonished the students to uphold\nhigh standards of performance both in internal and external examinations,\npublic competitions and quizzes set by their predecessors and they cannot\nafford to bring down these standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Integrity\nin Examinations<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Touching on the integrity of\nExaminations in the University, Rev. Prof. Adow Obeng said examinations are a\nmajor part of the University\u2019s activities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He disclosed that the University is currently\nworking towards a situation where its students will develop self-control and\nself-respect to the extent that students will write examinations without the\npresence of invigilators. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe know this is achievable, in fact, we\nexperimented this during the last examinations organised for the graduate students,\nand it was successful,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He therefore implored and encouraged the\nstudents to support the initiative by comporting themselves during examinations,\nadmonishing them to eschew all forms of cheating during examinations saying the\nUniversity will not countenance it in any form. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sexual\nMisconduct&nbsp; <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The President of PUCG said that the\nUniversity does not condone any form of sexual misconduct and sexual harassment\nof any kind on the University\u2019s campuses. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe take sexual misconduct and sexual\nharassment to include any unwelcomed sexual advances, requests for sexual\nfavours and other verbal or physical conducts of sexual nature especially when\nsuch actions give a student an advantage over others in terms of marks and other\nprivileges,\u201d he reiterated. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said students should have the courage\nto call for redress as no student will be victimized should such a case be\nreported. \u201cWe do not allow sexually transmitted grades here,\u201d Rev. Prof. Adow\nObeng cautioned.&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Dress\nCode<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The President of PUCG said\nstudents are expected to dress with decorum and decency. Moreover, they must\ndress appropriately to all formal University events\/functions including but not\nlimited to, lectures and other official gatherings and events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>LLB\nStudents<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The President implored the Law students to\nconcentrate on their primary objective of coming to PUCG Faculty of Law, which\nis to study for their LLB certificate with the aim of being admitted to the\nGhana School of Law and eventually to be called to the Ghana Bar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Gratitude<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Adow Obeng expressed\ngratitude to the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church\nof Ghana for the Church\u2019s support to develop a university with a world-wide\nacclaim. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He thanked the Government of Ghana\nthrough the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat\u2013the District Level Scholarship for\nthe 2019\/2020 academic year, for awarding scholarship worth GH\u20b5207,256.56 to\nseventy-four (74) students pursuing various undergraduate programmes in the\nUniversity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The President also thanked Hon. Bryan\nAcheampong, Mr. Fred Odame Asiedu and the Barclays Bank Ghana Ltd for their support\nto students through scholarship awards. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Adow Obeng expressed\nappreciation to parents and guardians for choosing PUCG for their wards. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are conscious of your desire for\nPUCG to make a positive difference in the lives of your children and wards.
