{"id":7719,"date":"2020-03-16T14:41:31","date_gmt":"2020-03-16T14:41:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.presbyuniversity.edu.gh\/site\/?p=7719"},"modified":"2020-03-17T07:58:56","modified_gmt":"2020-03-17T07:58:56","slug":"school-of-graduate-studies-holds-2nd-graduation-ceremony","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.presbyuniversity.edu.gh\/site\/school-of-graduate-studies-holds-2nd-graduation-ceremony\/","title":{"rendered":"School of Graduate Studies Holds 2nd Graduation Ceremony"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The\nPresbyterian University College, Ghana (PUCG) held its 2<sup>nd<\/sup>\nCongregation Ceremony for the School of Graduate Studies on the 14<sup>th<\/sup>\nof March, 2020 at the Okwahu Campus Abetifi. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PUCG\ngraduated 315 students comprising 206 males, and 109 females who had\nsuccessfully completed their programmes of study in Master of Education in\nEducational Studies, Master of Arts in International Development Studies,\nMaster of Science in Environmental Health and Sanitation, and Master of Science\nin Natural Resources Management. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Addressing the\nCongregation on the theme \u201cGhana Beyond Aid: The Role of Graduate Studies,\u201d the\nPresident of PUCG, Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Adow Obeng said Ghana is blessed with a lot of\nnatural resources which if effectively and efficiently exploited and utilized,\nwill transform Ghana into the status of a developed country in no time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Adow Obeng noted\nthat since independence, Ghana has faced many challenges such as infrastructural\ndeficit, lack of skilled labour, budget deficit, and ill-equipped health and\neducational facilities, among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"344\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.presbyuniversity.edu.gh\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/A-section-of-the-graduates.jpg?resize=600%2C344&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7720\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.presbyuniversity.edu.gh\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/A-section-of-the-graduates.jpg?w=600&amp;ssl=1 600w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.presbyuniversity.edu.gh\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/A-section-of-the-graduates.jpg?resize=300%2C172&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.presbyuniversity.edu.gh\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/A-section-of-the-graduates.jpg?resize=360%2C206&amp;ssl=1 360w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption>A section of the Graduates<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>However, the President of PUCG\nbelieves that the utilization of Ghana\u2019s internally generated funds and aids\nreceived from Ghana\u2019s development partners have succeeded in moving the\ndevelopment of Ghana higher than how it was at the time of independence. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This notwithstanding, Rev. Prof. Adow\nObeng said this has not taken Ghana which is now in the community of\nmiddle-income countries, out of the woods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In line with the economic situation\nof the country, Rev. Prof. Adow Obeng believes that the developmental agenda of\nthe President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo since he resumed office on 7<sup>th<\/sup>\nJanuary, 2017 to move Ghana to a state of Beyond Aid is critical for the\neconomic emancipation that every Ghanaian so desires. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;\u201cThe vision of Ghana Beyond Aid is for the\nGovernment of Ghana and her people to builda prosperous and self-confident\nGhana that is in charge of her economic destiny; a transformed Ghana that is\nprosperous enough to be beyond needing aid, and that engages competitively with\nthe rest of the world through trade and investment,\u201d the President said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He acknowledged the\nmeasures the government is putting in place to improve upon the growth and development in\nindustry, commerce, agriculture, education and the other sectors noting that \u201cUndoubtedly, government is creating\nthe enabling environment for the private sector to thrive.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs\na country, we have to make high and efficient investments in infrastructure,\neducation and skills, science and technology. This among other things, will\nrequire massive utilization and deployment of indigenous resources, including\nhuman resources, in the most creative and efficient manner for rapid\nsocio-economic transformation, and this is where graduate studies come in.\u201d Rev.\nProf. Adow Obeng said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But the President of PUCG believes the\ngoals of Ghana Beyond Aid agenda cannot be achieved without the active\nparticipation of the Ghanaian Universities, research institutions and their\ngraduate studies which are at the fore front of research, knowledge creation\nand dissemination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"601\" height=\"372\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.presbyuniversity.edu.gh\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Rev-Prof-Emmanuel-Adow-Obeng-President-PUCG-1.jpg?resize=601%2C372&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7722\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.presbyuniversity.edu.gh\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Rev-Prof-Emmanuel-Adow-Obeng-President-PUCG-1.jpg?w=601&amp;ssl=1 601w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.presbyuniversity.edu.gh\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Rev-Prof-Emmanuel-Adow-Obeng-President-PUCG-1.jpg?resize=300%2C186&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.presbyuniversity.edu.gh\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Rev-Prof-Emmanuel-Adow-Obeng-President-PUCG-1.jpg?resize=360%2C223&amp;ssl=1 360w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 601px) 100vw, 601px\" \/><figcaption>Rev Prof Emmanuel Adow Obeng, President &#8211; PUCG<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Role of Graduate Studies in Achieving the Ghana Beyond\nAid Agenda<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rev.\nProf. Adow Obeng said it is important to note that all over the world,\nuniversities and research institutions have helped world economies to make\nstrategic breakthroughs through the process of research and most especially\npostgraduate studies. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\ntherefore goes without saying that the Ghana Beyond Aid agenda cannot be\nachieved without the active role of Postgraduate studies,\u201d he reiterated. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Solutions to\nDevelopmental Problems<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rev.\nProf. Adow Obeng said Postgraduate studies is an investment in personal and\nnational human capital which seeks to train a highly skilled individuals and\nprofessionals who are capable of addressing specific issues of national and\nglobal concerns. Prof. Adow Obeng\nsaid that postgraduate studies or research plays critical role in the life of\nan individual and a nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said these roles\nhelp to build teamwork that helps to nurture specific cognitive and\ninter-personal skills, the creation of strong scholarly communities and\nentrepreneurial workforce; improvement in individual\u2019s commitment and\npatriotism. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt is imperative for\nthe government, the private sector, the universities, research institutions and\ncivil society organizations including postgraduate studies beneficiaries to\ncooperate to ensure that postgraduate studies and its attendant research\nactivities contribute effectively towards the attainment of Ghana Beyond Aid,\u201d\nthe President of PUCG noted.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>To the Graduates<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWith\nthe empowerment you have received through these programmes, I charge you to go\nout and become change agents and managers of change to\nhelp develop a new paradigm, which will strategically position our educational\nsystem and the other sectors of our economy to meet our national needs and also\nto support the achievement of the Ghana Beyond Aid agenda,\u201d Rev.
