{"id":9003,"date":"2022-11-08T08:29:28","date_gmt":"2022-11-08T08:29:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.presbyuniversity.edu.gh\/site\/?p=9003"},"modified":"2022-11-08T08:30:28","modified_gmt":"2022-11-08T08:30:28","slug":"alumni-spotlight-pugs-sylvia-oger-wins-top-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.presbyuniversity.edu.gh\/site\/alumni-spotlight-pugs-sylvia-oger-wins-top-award\/","title":{"rendered":"<strong>Alumni Spotlight: PUG\u2019s Sylvia Oger Wins Top Award<\/strong>"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Sylvia Oger Ofosu Dwamena, (also known as Sylvia Oger Sappor when she was at PUG) an alumna of Presbyterian University, Ghana was one of the winners of the Ministry of Health\u2019s Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Award, education and research category for the year 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mrs. Sylvia Oger Ofosu Dwamena whose educational life at PUG spanned from the year 2008 to 2012 is a tutor at the Nursing and Midwifery Training College, Sekondi in the western region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After completing BSc. Nursing at PUG, Sylvia pursued Postgraduate Diploma in Education, (PGDE) and Masters in Nursing at University of Cape Coast. She is currently pursuing doctorate degree in Nursing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sylvia attributes her success and desire to become a scholar in the field of nursing to her training at PUG during her first degree. According to her PUG\u2019s training system that goes beyond academics into training the totality of the student \u2013 character, hard work, presentation skills, strict learning conditions among others \u2013 has made her what she is today in her profession.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"310\" height=\"423\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.presbyuniversity.edu.gh\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/1.jpg?resize=310%2C423&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9004\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.presbyuniversity.edu.gh\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/1.jpg?w=310&amp;ssl=1 310w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.presbyuniversity.edu.gh\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/1.jpg?resize=220%2C300&amp;ssl=1 220w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.presbyuniversity.edu.gh\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/1.jpg?resize=198%2C270&amp;ssl=1 198w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 310px) 100vw, 310px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><em>Mrs. Sylvia Oger Ofosu Dwamena displaying her award.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She was grateful to the then Head of Department for Nursing, Mrs. Dorothy Awuah Peasah and her team of lecturers at the Department of Nursing for their words of inspiration, which have impacted their excellent professional practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Born to Mr William Tetteh Sappor (late) and Mrs Beatrice Esi Sappor, Sylvia\u2019s road to success has not been easy as she had to defer her nursing programme in the first year at PUG because she was opposed by the then management of &nbsp;&nbsp;the Agogo Presbyterian Hospital and some staff at her department for working full time and pursuing a regular education programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Notwithstanding, she was grateful to the University for admitting her into the second year after her deferment because she held diploma in nursing and also had some years of clinical experience. She was also grateful to the few people who believed in her and encouraged her to forge ahead in spite of the difficulties.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"602\" height=\"395\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.presbyuniversity.edu.gh\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/2.jpg?resize=602%2C395&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9005\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.presbyuniversity.edu.gh\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/2.jpg?w=602&amp;ssl=1 602w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.presbyuniversity.edu.gh\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/2.jpg?resize=300%2C197&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.presbyuniversity.edu.gh\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/2.jpg?resize=360%2C236&amp;ssl=1 360w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 602px) 100vw, 602px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><em>Mrs. Sylvia Oger Ofosu Dwamena\u2019s textbook on Nursing Process<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hard work, determination and faith in God propelled her to graduate as a first class student and she was the valedictorian at the 2012 graduation at the University.
