BSc. Environmental and Natural Resources Management

Overview

This programme is affiliated to University of Ghana, Legon and it is based at the Akuapem Campus. The programme in Environmental and Natural Resources Management aims at deepening understanding of the character of the environment, and of its inherent natural resources as they relate to human livelihoods and survival. It explores the ways the environment and the resources are used. In this quest, it combines theory and practice, and places a refreshing emphasis upon bottom-up participatory methodologies and upon lessons from local resource management practices. The knowledge gained is used to inform policy planning. A graduate in this four-year Bachelor of Science (BSc.) programme is expected to be in a solid position to analyze, plan and positively influence the management of the environment and natural resources in very practical ways in a wide range of institutions or establishments.


Admission Requirement

West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) Applicants

Credit in core English, core Mathematics and either Integrated Science or Social Studies and any three elective subjects which should include at least one of the following: Economics; Geography; Government; Mathematics; Biology; Chemistry Physics; Horticulture, General Agric, Animal Husbandry and Crop Science with an aggregate score of 36 or better (A1-C6).

Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE) Applicants

Credit in core English, core Mathematics and either Integrated Science or Social Studies and any three elective subjects which should include at least one of the following: Economics; Geography; Government; Mathematics; Biology; Chemistry Physics and General Agriculture with an aggregate score of 24 or better (A-D).

General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level

5 Credits (including English Language, Mathematics, an Arts subject and a Science subject) in the WAEC General Certificate of Education (GCE/WASC) Ordinary Level Examination; and 3 passes at the Advanced Level of the GCE. One of the Advanced Level passes should be a grade D or better. A pass in General Paper must also be obtained.

HND Applicants

HND holders with at least Second Class Lower in addition to the basic qualification at SSSCE/OL/WASSCE may be admitted to Second Year of the programme after passing an interview.

 


Mature Applicants

Mature Applicants must have attained the age of 25 years or above and must pass an aptitude test in English and Mathematics.

Other possible entry routes include International Baccalaureate (IB), IGCSE, GCSE, GBCE, ABCE, the American Grades 12 and 13 examinations and other external examinations which have the equivalences to the WASSSCE, SSSCE and the GCE. Candidates with external qualifications are admitted to either Level 100 or 200, depending on the nature of qualification and their equivalences to local qualifications.

International Students

International Students may be admitted on the basis of qualification from their home country for which the West African Examination Council shall determine equivalence. Evidence of proficiency in English Language will be required in the case of applicants from non-English speaking countries.
