Faculty of Law

Overview

The Faculty of Law of Presbyterian University College, Ghana is affiliated to the University of Cape Coast and was established to educate and train prospective lawyers and personnel that work in law related firms. The Faculty mounted its Bachelor of Laws (LLB) programme in 2018 at the Kumasi Campus.  The Faculty of Law is to foster the development of the discipline of law.

The Faculty of Law combines high academic and professional excellence, innovative research, and intellectual curiosity of the lecturers as well as the ability to communicate effectively with law makers and the judiciary with the aim of achieving results in mutual support and synergy. 

Admission Requirements

The normal entry requirements of a degree at Presbyterian University College, Ghana apply to the LL.B programme.  Two main streams of admission instituted in the Faculty are as follows:

Category A: 4 – Year (Regular) LL.B programme

Category A candidates are admitted as holders of:

West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) Applicants

Credits in the three core subjects (English, Mathematics and Integrated Science/Social Studies) and three WASSCE elective subjects in General Arts or Science or Business with Business Management, Economics, Accounting, Costing and Business Mathematics with aggregate 36 or better.

Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE) Applicants

Credits in the three core subjects (English, Mathematics and Integrated Science/Social Studies) and three SSSCE elective subjects in General Arts or Science or Business with Business Management, Economics, Accounting, Costing and Business Mathematics with aggregate 24 or better.

General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level

Credits in at least five ‘O’ Level subject, including English Language and Mathematics, together with three ‘A’ Levels or equivalent in Arts or Science Subjects, and

Mature Applicants

Must be 25 years of age or above at the time of submitting the application with at least five passes at the ‘O’ Levels, including English Language and Mathematics or WASSSCE/SSSCE with passes in the three core subjects (English, Mathematics and Integrated Science/Social Studies) and three WASSSCE elective subjects in General Arts or Science or Business. The Candidate must pass entrance examination and interview.

Category B: 3-Year (Weekend) LL.B programme

Category B candidates are admitted as holders of first degree in a discipline other than law. Candidates in this category will be required to do a three-year full-time LL.B programme.

International Students

Foreign students may be admitted into the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) programme if they possess qualifications equivalent to those listed above and must show evidence of proficiency in English Language,credible documents from any accredited institution (e.g. Institute of Languages, University of Ghana Language Centre, or proficiency document from the University/College whose language of instruction is English or TOEFL).
