Faculty of Development Studies Organises Short Courses on Occupational Health and Safety

On the 28th August, 2015, the Department of Environmental and Natural Resources Management at Akuapem Campus organised short course on Occupational Health and Safety as part of series of short courses to be organised by the department. The five days course covered theoretical perspectives of causes of occupational accidents, accident investigation and reporting, emergency preparedness and response systems, material safety data sheet, safe work procedure, fire safety and fire safety drill. A total of 13 participants registered and participated in the short course.

Participant were mostly modular students from level 300 and 400 of the Environmental and Natural resources management and Rural and Community Development departments. Resources persons were from drawn from the Environmental and Natural Resources Management department of Presbyterian University College, Total Ghana (Head Office) and Ghana National Fire Service, Greater Accra Regional Office.

As part of the course, staff members of the Akuapem Campus were taken through fire safety and fighting measures. They were trained on the use of fire extinguisher to combat small and growing fire, the use of blanket to prevent the supply of oxygen for fire to occur as (smouldering method).

A graduation ceremony was held by the HoD and the Dean of Faculty of Development Studies where certificates were issued to participants on the 2nd of August, 2015. It was indicated by the Dean that by December, 2015 another module will be organised for interested participants within and outside the University.
