M.A. Guidance and Counselling

The Presbyterian University, Ghana has obtained accreditation to run Master of Arts (M.A.) in Guidance and Counselling programme. The programme offers the following:

Aim of the Programme

The aim of the programme is to train men and women as Guidance and Counselling professionals by guiding them in the acquisition of knowledge equipping them with the requisite skills to function as Counsellors for educational institutions and other societal groups as well addressing counselling challenges adopting appropriate approaches in the country.

Entry Requirements into the M.A. Guidance and Counselling Programme

A candidate seeking admission into a master’s degree in Guidance and Counselling programme must:

  1. have obtained a good first degree (at least a Second-Class Lower Division) in an appropriate field of study from an accredited University 
  2. Applicants with a Third-Class degree or Pass with at least three years working experience (teaching, religious ministry and guidance and counselling coordination). Such candidates would be admitted after passing a selection interview.
  3. International Students who obtained their first degrees other than Presbyterian University, Ghana and other accredited Ghanaian institutions, would seek equivalence from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission and submit a letter thereof with certificates before admission will be granted into the programme.

Duration of the programme:

The duration for completion of the M.A. Guidance and Counselling shall be one (1) year.

  • Ghana Education Service: Guidance and Counselling Coordinators and Teachers in the Basic and Senior High Schools
  • Christian, Islamic and other Faith-based Institutions.
  • Hospitals as counsellors in collaboration with the clinical psychologists and psychopathologists.
  • The Prisons and other correctional centres to provide both preventive and correctional services.
  • Police Service and other security services
  • Social Welfare Departments
  • Counsellors for Governmental, Non-Governmental Organisations and Corporate Bodies.
